What stays free in Kinomap after the 14 days
During the trial the whole app is open. After 14 days nothing is charged: Kinomap switches to “Freemium”, its version without a subscription, unless you subscribe.
Three features stay free and unlimited there, according to Kinomap’s help center:
- Map mode: Kinomap’s routes drawn on a map, standard or satellite, with your avatar moving along the track.
- Free training: a session without video, with your data shown live. Outdoor mode, which records a run outside, stays free as well.
- A selection of structured workouts that other users have made public.

The family option is taken on the website, on top of a monthly or yearly plan.

With Domyos equipment, the trial lasts 30 days
Kinomap has been the official app for Decathlon’s Domyos equipment since May 19, 2025. Link a Domyos machine and your Decathlon account and the trial runs for 30 days instead of 14.
Among the benefits of that account, Kinomap also lists four features that otherwise need a subscription: importing your own GPX tracks into map mode, creating your own structured workouts, exporting sessions to other platforms, and a playlist of videos selected for your machine.
Decathlon confirms that this connected experience stays free with a Decathlon account and a machine designed by Decathlon.

What you need to use Kinomap on a treadmill
Kinomap needs to know your speed. On a Bluetooth treadmill in its compatibility list, it reads it directly; on the models it labels “Interactive”, it also sets the incline from the slope of the video.
Without Bluetooth, Kinomap gives three options for a treadmill: the front camera of your phone or tablet, which estimates your speed from your movement and costs nothing; a footpod; or the RUNN sensor, which connects any treadmill to the app and sends it speed and incline.
The belt speed stays in your hands: Kinomap does not set it, for safety, except on Domyos treadmills in some structured workouts. NordicTrack and ProForm treadmills are missing from the app: according to Kinomap, those brands do not open their products to third-party apps, which leaves the camera.
A video plays in one of two modes. In Variable Speed it advances at your speed, up to twice its original speed; in Original Speed it plays as it was filmed.

Kinomap or Zwift for treadmill running
Kinomap shows videos filmed on real routes. Zwift puts you in 3D worlds with other runners online.
Running on Zwift is currently free, according to its FAQ, read on October 8, 2026. One feature needs a paid subscription or an active free trial: automatic incline control on the Wahoo KICKR RUN treadmill.
Zwift reads your speed from a compatible treadmill or from a sensor: a footpod, a smartwatch or smart shoes. Kinomap also accepts the phone camera.

Free alternatives to Kinomap
For filmed scenery without a subscription, YouTube is enough: channels post running videos filmed at runner’s height. The video plays at its own speed, which you can raise or lower in the player.
Runkyz is our app: a 3D game for treadmills, on computers, Android, iPhone and iPad. It shows the speed and incline to set on the console, so it needs no sensor. It has no filmed videos and no online racing.

| App | On screen | What is free | What you pay for | To read your speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kinomap | Filmed videos and routes on a map | A 14-day trial, then map mode, free training and public workouts | The videos: $11.99 a month or $89.99 a year | A compatible treadmill, a sensor or the phone camera |
| YouTube | Filmed running videos | Everything | Nothing | The video does not follow your speed |
| Zwift | 3D worlds shared online | Running, currently | Automatic incline control on the Wahoo KICKR RUN | A compatible treadmill or a sensor |
| Runkyz | Three 3D routes with a pacer | Desert and Wild Ring up to 10 km | Space, distances over 10 km and GPX import: €9.99, one-time purchase | Nothing to connect: you set the console |

IN RUNKYZ
